10 years of Samat Nordic: from acquisition to lasting transformation

On 12 July 2016, Samat Group integrated Haanpaa, a Finnish specialist in chemical transport and logistics in Northern Europe. Ten years later, this acquisition has deeply transformed the group — expanding its geographical footprint, enriching its industrial expertise and opening new perspectives in integrated logistics and energy transition.

The challenge was never just geographical. It was about joining local teams, expertise rooted in Nordic realities and a demanding industrial culture — building, step by step, a lasting presence in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands. The first years were not about merger, but about getting to know each other. Learning to work together. Understanding Nordic realities: the cold, the distances, industrial clients who have zero tolerance for approximation. Haanpaa became Samat Nordic. And Samat Nordic became something the group had not entirely anticipated: a model. Thanks to Samat International AB and its intermodal operations combining rail, sea and road, Samat has established itself as a reference operator in chemical logistics on a European scale, with a network stretching from Kirkenes in northern Norway to Cadiz in southern Spain.

Some investments change the very nature of a company. Hamina is one of them. With the construction of the Hamina storage terminal, 15 million euros, a green loan, a strategic partnership with the Fintoil refinery. Samat Nordic is no longer just a carrier. Transport, storage, logistics of sensitive goods: the group operates far beyond simple transport. It is a quiet but profound transformation, redefining what Samat Nordic is capable of offering its clients.

In the Nordics, Samat does not wait for the sector to change. The group is part of those who change it. Solar panels on the buildings in Oulu, alternative fuels, concrete actions embedded in the ACT CSR programme: the Nordics have become the group’s energy transition laboratory. Not out of regulatory obligation. Out of conviction that this is where the future of chemical transport in Europe is being decided.

624 employees. 5 locations. 9 supported associations.

These figures tell a story, but not the whole story. What they don’t tell is the trust that has been built between teams who didn’t know each other. The bonds forged with local sports clubs, schools and community associations. An industrial presence is not sustained by operational performance alone. It is sustained because women and men decide, every morning, to do their work with rigour and commitment.

Ten years after the integration of Haanpaa, Samat Nordic has become far more than a Nordic subsidiary. This acquisition, the group did not simply integrate. It transformed the group — industrially, energetically, humanly. What Samat Nordic is building today in the Nordics is set to enrich the entire group. A story that is only just beginning.
